THE WILD RABBIT IN THE COTSWOLDS | PERFECT COUPLES UK STAYCATION

Happiest of birthday's to me! Yes it was time to get out the house and see the world. Or see the Cotswolds to be more exact. Tuula, Charlie and I took a trip down to The Wild Rabbit, a modern British inn - in the heart of the Cotswolds, where you can expect to be served seasonal food in a relaxed and welcoming setting.

But does it live up to the hype and the pretty online brochure? I'm pleased to say this was a very memorable birthday. There are many cottages at The Wild Rabbit which is part of the Daylesford estate – one of the most sustainable organic farms in the UK. The farm locally sources all their key materials from the organic ingredients in their kitchens, to the handmade horsehair mattresses in their bedrooms.

We stayed in the Nestling cottage which has two king size bedrooms, a cosy living space with open fire and a fully equipped kitchen. Perhaps a little overkill for us, even Charlie was confused to get a whole king size bedroom to himself. But perfect for a family, or maybe two couples that are happy to share communal spaces.

Getting there

Although we drove down, The Wild Rabbit is actually fairly accessible via train from London. You can get the GWR train from Paddington that takes little over 2 hours. Then from Kingham Station it's a brisk 20 minute walk. In the end we decided to drive, with Charlie and bags it was just a little more easier for us.

Dog Friendly

A quick note, this is one of the best pet friendly places I've visited in a long time. Charlie was provided with all the amenities; a dog bed, water bowl and treats. They have over 2,000 acres of organic farmland to explore, which begin right on their doorstep. If you're needing a bit of guidance there is a downloadable map on their website

Thinking of going?

We stayed for 3 nights and will certainly comeback. If you take a stroll away from the Inn you'll find a local pub called The King and Plough, rumoured to be David Beckham's favourite pub. We feasted on the King Garlic Prawns the potato fritters, and the relaxed slow pace of country life.

Bonuses and Takeaways

Some quick takeaways form my notes here.

The Spa up on Daylesford Farm was wonderful, a nice couples retreat. Starting to think Tuula booked this for herself and it happened to coincide with my birthday. Remember when Homer bought Marge a bowling ball for her birthday with Homer written on it?

Not too far from Cheltenham Races? Well a 45 minute drive which isn't too far, but who wants to drive to the races. It's another 2 and a half hours on the train which is not ideal. So not the best place for base camp if you're thinking of going to the races.

Great shower pressure, awesome WiFi. Staff are friendly, always smiling.

So where is David Beckham then? I'm sure he'll recognise me from the Haig Club event and how cool will that look in front of the missus. Very is the answer. Very cool indeed.
