TOP 5 NON ALCOHOLIC BEERS AND PALE ALES I’M DRINKING RIGHT NOW
Today I wanted to offer some of the best non-alcoholic beers to drink when you're ill. Yes don't worry, I've not turned my back on my beloved beer, but due to a bout of tonsillitis these past few weeks I was forced to take a course of penicillin and Ibuprofen. Of course I thought I could still drink my way through the pain and prescription drugs like my forefathers would have done, but I over estimated my powers of convalescence. Hence, retaking the course, hence now drinking alcohol free beer. In this short listicle I play fast and loose with the terms beers, pale ales, lagers, IPA's and bitters. Forgive me.
HEINEKEN N.V - HEINEKEN
This has been the best of the marquee non-alcoholic lagers I've tasted yet. Unfortunately the likes of Peroni Libera Alcohol Free and Budweiser Zero Alcohol Free Beer didn't do it for me. I guess when you're not enjoying the taste and you're not getting a buzz, you have to question what's the point. May as well have another coffee. However, Heineken 0.0 I have taken a liking too. They are the beer of James Bond after all, although I feel the marketing guys are missing a trick. Why not 0.07 ?
ADNAMS - GHOST SHIP
This is the best citrus beer that really does taste like it might have booze in it. I've heard some reports to drink this cold, and even make a shandy out of it. I've found both fall foul of diluting the quality of the experience that comes with drinking this beer. It has that traditional bitter after taste, and oddly quite filling. You'll do well to drink more than a couple in one sitting.
BREW DOG - NANNY STATE
This has had some quite sniffy reviews from folk online so was quite reticent to buy any. However, I'm a fan of Brewdog. Once had the most strongest beer in the world in a Brewdog brewery. Sink the Bismarck it was called. So strong you could only drink it in shots. Which I did, and I won't tell you what happened after except never get on public transport once you've sank half a dozen. The Nanny State was true to most other Brewdog beers; flavoursome, hoppy and an acquired taste. Which is to say Tuula gagged when she tried it.
NOT ANOTHER BEER CO LTD - LUCKY SAINT
First sampled this whilst on my travels to the Cotswolds. Slightly pricier than your traditional alcohol free beer, however, I can understand why. In the same sitting I tried a Budvar Nealko and a Nirvana Hoppy Pale Ale. Both of which lacked any kind of fizziness or excitement. The Lucky Saint I tried last and it saved the day. At this point I was ready to chuck in the towel and order the Dalmore.
BRAUEREI BECK GMBH & CO KG - BECKS BLUE
I'm unsure why people aren't talking more about Becks Blue. It is one of the few pilsners that I like and luckily it tastes just like the original. You can readily make this into a shandy unlike some of the other non-starters like Stella and Erdinger. I'm relatively new into the world of non-alcohol free beers, and don't intend on being an authority, but these are the best ones I've found so far.
