Mr Jones Watches: Putting the Fun back into Microbrands

Mr Jones Watches: Putting the Fun back into Microbrands

That's right folks, time for me to tell you what Microbrand watch has caught my eye this week. I actually saw this watch on a friend, at a Christmas Party and I said what on earth are you wearing there. It was a simple white dial watch, and on closer inspection I noticed the lettering above each hand said, 'Remember, you're gunna Die.'

We both laughed because, I don't know, sometimes I think we all take things a little too seriously, or want foist happiness in places where it's not necessary. For example, I don't need to walk into someone else's office and see the words, Live, Life, Laugh scrolled on the wall. This is an office. This is work, we're here to make money.

This watch that my friend bought was by a brand called Mr. Jones. So I looked them up, and yes they are a Microbrand, and yes they are very accessible price-wise. Some start as low as £225, like the one my friend was wearing. And they go up in price depending on the design, and whether they're mechanical watches or automatics. Standard procedure.

They have been producing their own line of watches for over ten years now. And in the bio on their website, I was interested to hear that Mr. Jones watches are deliberately designed to be conversation starters that make folks smile. I think sometimes, when we're at a party, we could do with a distraction. Too much talking politics, wars, economics, everyone has an opinion. But there's no gut laughs to be had around conversations of that nature.

Mr. Jones Watches print many of their own dials in-house, and assemble their own watches, almost all of which have unique and clever custom complications.

They have a flagship store down Seven Dials, and I'll be dropping by next time I'm in town. That's also pretty neat, how many Microbrand watches do you know of that have bricks and mortar? On their website they say they have one-designs in their store.

Some of the other designs on their site, which I'll link to here, are not really my kind of thing, but it might be yours. I would love to have a go at designing my own dial face, maybe if there is someone from Mr Jones reading this we can team up and collaborate.
