Are thin watches Fashionable in 2025?

There was a time when thin watches such as Mondaine, Daniel Wellington, Adexe, were considered cheap because they were thin. A thin watch also doesn't scream luxury because it is more than likely to be battery powered, unless of course you're wearing the Piaget Altiplano Ultimate Concept, with a thickness of only 2mm and price tag of $650,000, it's considered to be one of the world’s thinnest mechanical tourbillon watches.

On the thin watch wishlist

You only have to look at Citizen releasing their latest Suratto eco-drive watches for under $400. The watch, with a solar powered dial face is under 4.5mm thick, the grey two tone dial is my favourite. It's like a scratched dial face. When you turn the watch on its side it almost disappears. It's almost as thick as the strap it's supplied on.

My only complaint is I wish they didn't put the eco-drive on it. Leave the movement as a mystery and leave the dial clean. It will work great as an everyday watch and is easy to pair with any outfit. The name and 'suratto' is Japanese for 'slim' or 'slender', which makes this watch aptly named.

Are thin watches too feminine?

The literal poster child for this debate is the photo of is literally that photo of Mohammed Ali wearing the thinnest Cartier you could imagine. My opinion is that if it's good enough for Ali, it's good enough for me. From the Reddit thread;

Fashion goes in cycles though just like any trend. The huge watch faces were popular for a little while, now it’s coming down to normal sizes again. Eventually, the tiny watches will come back around in style. It’s inevitable.

Thin watch Brands to look out for

Dress Watches: Brands like Cartier (Tank), Nomos, and Frederique Constant offer elegant, thin dress watches.
Minimalist Watches: Brands like Skagen and Daniel Wellington focus on slim, clean designs. Luxury Ultra-Thin Watches: Piaget Altiplano and Bulgari Octo Finissimo are iconic examples of ultra-thin luxury watches.

Cheapest thin watch for starters

Ok gents, I know we don't buy watches for under £50 on Amazon. But if you want to just road test a thin watch to see if it works for your style, why not take a look at the OLEVS high-performance ultra-thin watches which is an ideal companion for any occasion and its unique texture enables you to easily spice up a normal outfit and add style to your life. At least that's what they tell you on the website.

Final thoughts:

Ultimately it comes down to personal choice like most things. But the thin watch will never get out of its big thick watch shadow. The only way I could see myself wearing a thin watch is if it was a personal gift, or that Cartier that Ali wears came into my possession by miracle happenstance. I like my watches to have presence, make a statement and give me confidence.
